172 hrs on the moon

This is not a book review. Just thoughts on a book.
I recently read 172 hrs on the moon, in English. I do not know if the translation is lacking from Norwegian, but the whole thing seemed rather childish. The first couple of pages, were really captivating keeping one wondering what the story behind the book is. However the first half of the book is slow and kinda uninteresting.   As we watch 3 teenagers on their daily life before they are picked up at the moon contest.

The end of the book is kinda lacking. I don't particularly like vampire or ghost stories and whoever has watched the Screamers (which I think this book borrows from) will find the end familiar.

There are a few plot holes imho and a character, the old nasa "janitor" that plays little role and dies "young" into the plot, without offering much. Also the question WhyTF did they decide to go to the moon in the first place is not clearly answered, although one could derive some conclusions (ie jumpstart the space race) WhyTF do we get such a agonizing description of escape at the (almost) end, only to find out at the end that it was no escape at all. And a HUGE plot hole at the last couple of pages with the aftermath. How did they make it? How did they survive?

Overall the book is easily read if you like sci fi that is. But lacks the interest of other sci fi novels and older sci fi masters.

RIP Ray
