Διάβασα στην iefimerida.gr ότι οι ασιατικές πολεμικές τέχνες είναι αντιχριστιανικές. Και σκεφτόμουν ότι θα ήταν καλή φάση να κλείσουμε όλες αυτές τις σχολές του κακού και να ανοίξουμε νέες στη θέση τους με αντικείμενο την εκμάθηση χρήσης σπάθας, ξίφους, ασπίδας, τσεκουριού, τόξου πανοπλίας και όλων των όπλων που χρησιμοποιούσαν οι σταυροφόροι.
Αυτά άλλωστε είναι βλογημένα όπλα.

So I've seen a few Siemens room thermostat RDE 10.1 get thrown away due to broken battery compartment.

The door keeping the compartment in place brakes and the lower part of the battery case falls apart.so the battery powered thermostat can't operate.

However if you are a little crafty, there is a solution other than replacing the whole thermostat.

first you use some THIN (non elongating) adhesive tape to stick the batteries together in reverse polarity. Make sure the ends of the batteries are at the same exact level. Otherwise it may not have good contact. (I used insulating electrical tape, but that's not optimal)

Use a thin wire to bridge the 2 lower battery contacts. Even better if you solder them.


Then use adhesive tape to stick the two batteries inside the battery case. And a small piece to use as a way to pull and remove the case if needed.

Voila the thermostat is good to go!

Pitney Bowes is the shit! NOT!!!!

So... I bought some batteries of Ebay, from a US seller.
the only reason I bought it there was that he was selling a pack of 5, at the price that others sell only one. And considering all relative costs, ie shipping and global shipping program costs, it was still way cheaper than the competition!
So I took the plunge. The seller send it promptly and I got it in about 10 days, but where I was expecting 1 envelope with five batteries, I received 3 boxes measuring 6.5'' x 6.5'' x 6.5'' or about 17x17x17cm^3. I was really surprised when I received it, cause I wasn't expecting 3 boxes.
And then I opened one, and inside was a boatload of cushion paper and 2 batteries, measuring
6.5cm x 4cm x 0.8cm each!!!
The other two boxes, had 2 and one batteries inside. In one of the boxes, there was the envelope that the seller had actually used to post the items to the Ebay Global Shipping program.

There Pitney Bowes, opened the envelope and repackaged the items as they saw fit. What surprised me, was that they didn't send each battery individually. Its beyond my comprehension.

With a rough calculation, each box could fit 168 batteries.

what a waste.

Personally I avoid US sellers that use Ebay GSP cause it bloats the shipping cost unproportionally and without real reason. USPS is more than capable to ship stuff.

Ενα παράδειγμα της κατάστασης του λιανικού εμπορίου στην Ελλαδα (ή γιατί αγοράζω από το εξωτερικό)

Στο σπίτι που νοικιάζω ο νεροχύτης έχει την παρακάτω βρύση της FRANKE.

Το μοντέλο στην κουζίνα μου διαφέρει ως προς το αναμεικτικο μηχανισμό, αλλά η κεφαλή είναι η ίδια.
Αυτή η κεφαλή "βουρτσακι" έχει ενα διακοπτάκι για να στέλνει τη ροή στη μία ή την άλλη έξοδο. Και αυτό έχει χαλάσει. Το νερό τρέχει και από τις δύο εξόδους ταυτόχρονα.

Τηλέφωνο στην Franke για να ρωτήσω για ανταλλακτικό, μου λένε 90+φπα.
Τηλέφωνο σε δύο διαφορετικούς τοπικούς πωλητές της Franke, ο ένας μου είπε 88€+φπα, ο άλλος 89€+φπα.

Την εργοστασιακή κεφαλή την βρήκα μετά από λίγη ώρα ψαξίματος για 29 λίρες από το UK, (δεν την στέλνουν ελλάδα, αλλά υπάρχουν τρόποι παράκαμψης)



20 λεπτά μετά από ψάξιμο στο EBAY, βρήκα παρόμοια κεφαλή με  ~22$ μαζί με την αποστολή στην Ελλάδα.


Να σημειωθεί, ότι το εν λόγω εξάρτημα είναι εντελώς πλαστικό, εκτός από το διακοπτη εναλλαγής. Το κόστος κατασκευής του, δεν νομίζω ότι θα ξεπερνούσε τα 5€. Και το πουλάνε λιανική σχεδόν 100€!!!.

Εντάξει, υπήρχαν μέρες που μπορεί να σκορπούσαμε τα κατοστάρικα σαν χαρτοπετσέτες. Και ακόμα θα υπάρχουν άνθρωποι που τα 100€ τους φαίνονται ψίχουλα. Εγώ δυστυχώς δεν είμαι από αυτούς και η Franke δεν θα δεί φράγκο από μένα. Πολύ περισσότερο δε, που με 100€ θα μπορούσα να αγοράσω ολοκαίνουρια (σουπερ ουαου) βρύση και να μου μείνουν και για τον υδραυλικό (αν δεν την έβαζα μόνος μου).

επιστρεφοντας στο σπιτι των εφηβικων μου χρόνων

έχω ενα μικρό τελετουργικό.
βγάζω απο τη στοίβα με την (μικρη) συλλογή μου απο CD, το αλμπουμ των TEXAS: THE HUSH, και το ακούω.
Μετά βάζω και άλλα, Διφανα Κρίνα πχ, αλλά αυτό των Texas είναι πάντα πρώτο.

Αν και δεν ηταν το πρώτο CD που αγόρασα ποτέ, κάθε φορά που το ακούω μου φτιάχνει μια χαρούμενη διάθεση.
Της εποχής της αθωότητας εκεί γύρω στα 20+, που τα μόνα σημαντικά πράγματα ήταν τα μαθήματα στη σχολή και ποιος τα είχε με ποια.
Έχει και την Sharleen Spiteri σε μια σχεδόν αισθησιακή πόζα στο εξώφυλλο και με
ταξιδεύει πάντα σε αλλες εποχές.

I saw a locust shit today!!

So here I am starting my vacations and I am strategically placed inside a swimming pool when I notice a green bug on the edge. So I get as close to it as possible not to scare it, and I look at it intensively. The green bug is a locust that appears to have half back jumping legs. While I try to determine if that is a feat or an accident, the locust takes a dump in front of my eyes and jumps/flies to the sunset. The excrement has 1-2 mm length and thickness a fraction of that size... Amazing! How many people can claim that?

Replacing an IBM Thinkpad X31 Bios Battery

Some time ago I got a second hand IBM Thinkpad X31 which a few days ago, its bios battery gave up the ghost, so I had to search for a replacement.

Ebay was helpful enough to provide a few different options, all of which were a bit more expensive than I thought a bios battery would cost. So I took a gamble.

Instead of buying an "IBM bios Battery" I looked for and found cheaper bios batteries suitable for Dell machines.
And OMG! it fits and works in the IBM X31!!!

It would have been even cheaper had I time and tools to make a replacement using the cables and the connector from the original battery and using a 2032 button cell, available everywhere
