I 've been looking into buying some LED "bulbs" for home use online, and was trying to make an assessment on how to choose one depending on its details and how was that comparable to older incandescent and CFL bulbs. Most LED lamps are advertised with the color temperature they emit, a comparison of which can be seen in the image bellow,

and their luminosity measured in lumens. A comparison can be seen in the following pic

Another similar comparison can be found here. The issue is that many people say online that you can't compare bulb lumens and choose a bulb. I am not sure why they say that. It could be either due to the fact that we are not used to compare lumens, since we used to compare Watts or cause they do not trust the technique measuring lumens. Wikipedia has a very informative article about lumens, where it is stated that "On 1 September 2010, European Union legislation came into force mandating that lighting equipment must be labelled primarily in terms of lumens, instead of watts of electricity consumed." So I tend to believe that its the lack of use of lumens widely the problem that does not allow people to judge how bright a light bulb is. However this can change with time and comparative charts.
