I like freecycle.org I really do. The possibility of giving away to someone something you no longer need and it would quite probably end up in the garbage while still functional is great. Of course the feeling that you offer some sort of help to someone that needs it is great too. However it has soe shortcomings.
Rules are good when they are needed to protect the community from one or the other problem. But make too many rules and then the complexity of the matter makes all the advantages vanish in thin air.
Take a look at the Greek state for example. They always talk that they should provide motivation for innovation and way fr business to develop and improve. And yet they are unable to do so, due to the HUGE bureaucracy that hinders almost every step forward. The Greek state is hopeless in this regard. And this is why they cannot attract more capital to invest in Greece. It is not worth the effort.
Same in freecycle.org. When they demand from you to have a "registered" address from which you give stuff away, I suppose they do it for safety reasons, but if you move houses, then you have to update the address in direct contact with the administrators.
The new rule I just found out about is that you cannot make multiple postings for different items, but you have to make one post for all items you have to give away. And they refuse to upload your message so you have to upload it again.
Doesn't this defies the purpose of simplicity and recycling? Why the heck do I have to spend more energy and time than I already have just to merge two posts concerning different things? Damn. I need this to be freaking simple. I don't want to spend more time than the absolutely necessary just because a little turd decided that has the power to frack people.
Perhaps of course all these artificial difficulties are just a way of the retail world to send more stuff in the garbage, so they can sell more and more. Imagine that for a minute!A merchant becoming administrator of freecycle.org.
Damn if that does not defies the purpose...
make my life miserable so you can sell more...
