Ender's game

I watched Ender's Game a couple of nights ago. Having read the book half a lifetime ago, the movie felt empty. It felt as if they gutted the book to fit in the movie which might be understandable in some way, there were some unnecessary altered plot points.
It also felt that they could easily have made a series out of it, rather than just a single film.

Apart from that it was well executed, though I would prefer more space "simulation" fights, as well as the command school being on the asteroid Eros, rather than "near the aliens home planet". That was an necessary plot twist which I am not sure what exactly it succeed in the overall movie, apart from adding a cryochamber of sorts, again I do not understand why. Also Bonzo's death should have been permanent. No robotic surgery and no freeview of that was really relevant.
Also while the transparent battle school was interesting I also found it quite distracting. How could one fight in such low light conditions with all that amazing views outside! Not me for sure. I always imagined it as a hollow sphere non transparent and with a relative luminosity coming from the walls and the stars. The transparency seems distracting to me.

having said that I recently found out about Orson's Scot Cards antigay opinions which honestly left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I am not gay, and I cant see why gays should be persecuted.

I look at the uprising in the Ukraine and I think, I actually hope that such actions against oppressive regimes coupled with the internet and social media, could lead to a government-less type of democracy. One that does not need a central government body to function. Closer to the immediate democracy used by ancient Athens. Where every citizen had a voice and could speak up for and against nation affecting decisions. The mobile phone, could prove crucial since almost everyone has a phone. And the interconnection of people and civilizations could improve our position in a global society.
Of course to do that, one would need to feel some empathy for others, not just his own.

Does anyone remember why USA invaded Iraq?
Why they invaded Afghanistan?

Its bizarre they choose to invade those countries, but not North Korea.

Titanfall

I got wind today of the Titanfall beta. I was excited cause you know TITAN is Saturn's biggest moon, has an atmosphere, liquids on its surface and its a potential stellar body for colonisation. And you know Falling on Titan could have been an interesting game. Hah! I wish. Tital fall is about Robotic titans fighting each other. Now I don't mind some good action, nor mind some nice looking Mechas. From the original Mechwarrior and the Anime like Evangelion as well as Seaquest DSV and others, giant robots drew my attention. But the moon Titan vs Titan mech warriors in my book the moon wins.

I propose that all advanced civilisations with enough knowledge to become space faring races, operating in a capitalistic style of society, wont be able to reach such interstellar space faring status before declining and getting extinct due to poisoning themselves with whatever means eg pollution, bioengineering, or planetary biosphere collapse and turning a blind eye to the fact due to financial short term gains.

Toughbook H1 Stylus "Hack"

UPDATED!!
I recently got a toughbook H1 to use. I got it cheaply via ebay but without stylus pen.
Having a Toughbook CF18 pen I tried it and it worked fine!
So instead of giving 40 quid to get a replacement, I gave 3.50 and I will be able to do my job just as easy :)

Update, After I received the stylus I realised that this one, would not work with the digitizer screen. Only with the touchscreen models. It was rather disappointing, but I should have read the description better.
