Why google bought motorola?

Google failed to aquire the nortel/novtel patents so did the next best thing: bought Motorola and its huge patent portfolio. I don't know how exactly the market works but I could assume that motorola holds the patent on the mobile phone and could potentially sue everybody else...

Now they decided to force Mobile phone manufacturers to use a standardized charger, its about time to force laptop manufacturers to use also a standardized charger for all the million laptops that are sold and scraped every day world wide.
